3D Modeling
As an assignment for this study, I built a three-dimensional model of the universal joint with Fushion 360.
- Lauauch Fusion 360 and create a new design.
- Modeled every part of the universal joint.
- Assembled the parts.
- 3D model of the universal joint was completed.

Introduction to SolidWorks
SolidWorks is a powerful 3D mechanical design software developed by Dassault Systèmes. It is one of the widely used CAD software in the industry, particularly suitable for mechanical design, engineering analysis, and product development.
Main Features
- Parametric Modeling: Quickly update models by modifying parameters
- Assembly Design: Powerful assembly capabilities, supporting both bottom-up and top-down design approaches
- Engineering Drawing Generation: Automatic generation of 2D engineering drawings, supporting various international standards
- Simulation Analysis: Integrated finite element analysis, motion simulation, and other features
- Data Management: Provides PDM system for convenient team collaboration
Basic Modeling Process
Part Design
- Create sketches
- Add features (extrude, revolve, sweep, etc.)
- Modify feature parameters
Assembly Design
- Insert parts
- Add mate relationships
- Check interference
Engineering Drawing Generation
- Create views
- Add dimensions
- Generate bills of materials
Application Scenarios
- Mechanical parts design
- Mold design
- Sheet metal design
- Piping system design
- Consumer product design
User Experience
SolidWorks features an intuitive and user-friendly interface with a relatively gentle learning curve. Its parametric modeling functionality is particularly practical, allowing for quick design modifications. The assembly design capabilities are powerful, effectively handling complex mechanical systems. The engineering drawing generation features are comprehensive, capable of quickly outputting drawings that comply with various standards.
